Web Design
Back to Articles and Tutorials

Website design can be a lucrative past time. Web designs generally
aren't that difficult for those of us who draw. How to design web sites is a little tougher. Even
still, internet web site design can be learned with little or no programming skills. It sounds intimidating but
its not tough – read on...
Scared to offer web site design services? You don't know website design? No
problem. You don't need to be able to write a book on on it in order to make some dollars as a keyboard cowboy.
Website design has come a long way. In the olden days you use to have to know a lot of programming language or
higher a professional website design firm. Not any more.
There are many programs available to design websites, including Dreamweaver,
Coffeecup, Webstudio, Joomla, and Sitegrinder. More than any of these I
recommend XSitePro2. I've talked a lot about XSitePro2 web design software HERE, so I'm not going to rehash it all over again- but let me just say that
it can do just about anything most companies would want from a website.
First, get some software and go through the tutorials. With XSitePro2 the tutorial is about 2 hours long. Design your own site or 2,
then design web pages for friends and family. Now you should be confident enough to start designing them for
other people. Start asking local businesses- go door to door and offer a free mock-up of their "new site". I
highly suggest you use the standard templates provided to save you time. Web designs are easy to come by – and
chances are they haven't seen your template before anyway.
I don't tell people I can design their sites because I have too much to do
already. I don't need another career! But here's a quick example for you: I had a
client walk into my office the other day saying they were planning on putting up a new website. Their website
wasn't that tough – a rather simple design- with no regularly updated content. Basically a glorified yellow
pages ad. (This is a terrible idea for a website but I didn't tell my client that). The client informed me that
they were paying about $1,000 for their new website. I could have easily had it up within a day. And mine
would have been better.
Once they found out I do web design they regretted getting it done elsewhere. If
that was you (with XSitePro2 website software) you could have just
earned $1,000. All in a days work.
