Make money with drawing: Price Levels
Back to Articles and Tutorials
Price Levels are a fantastic way to:
- Increase your sales volumn
- Give multiple pricing options to the prospective client
- Give your drawing business a more professional apearence
- Give your artwork a more professional appearance
- Increase the chance for repeat sales

Now that you know what Price Levels can do for you... what are they?
When you go to the local fast food restaurant and buy a hamburger you have the option of buying a meal for a
discounted price. Not only that, but you also have the option to "go large" or "king size" or whatever
they want to call it. By getting you to move from one price level to the next the company makes more
money from the sale. I have illustrated each step in Price Level below:
|
Price Level
|
Product
|
Price
|
|
Level 1
|
Burger
|
$4.00
|
|
Level 2

Now you aren't selling burgers with your drawing skills (although that might work) but you can
begin to understand something about Price Levels from this example. Using Price Levels in your own
business can increase your sales volumn by selling more.
Examples of Price Levels you can use
Let's say you're drawing Caricatures at a local event. You can draw a caricature in
under 15 minutes for $10. Consider selling matting on your drawing for an additional $2
fee. This is a step up in Price Level. If you purchase the matting a standard size "ready to go" it might only
cost you $0.50 while it makes you an additional $1.50. That might not sound like much... but if
you are drawing 4 caricatures an hour that means you can make an extra $6.00 an hour!
Let's say you are painting windows for the Christmas holiday season. You might have
(Price Level 1) a basic option to add holy, mistle toe, and a frosting to windows. You might have
(Price Level 2) an option to add a Christmas tree scene or 1 other larger painting. You might have
(Price Level 3) an option to do a large holiday mural along with the basic option. Each Price Level
gives the client an oppertunity to decide what they can afford and each Price level gives different benefits
to the client.
Conclusion
As you can see, using Price Levels can give your business a more professional look, make your
own work look better, and encourage repeat sales. Any one of these options means potentially more
money in your pocket. Having the benefit of all of these gives you a fantastic oppertunity
to make more money.
